Splash!
I had big plans brewing for a little video compilation of some throwing and slip trailing. I had a good bit of footage but was trying for just a bit more. I positioned my little camera above my wheel and leaned it down onto the lens. I started my board of tumblers and got about 4 deep when out of my peripheral vision I saw a flash of silver and then the maddening curplunk as my camera leaped off its perch and dove into our 55 gallon drum that we use to wash our hands in. What happened was when it ran out of batteries it retracted the lens and shifted the weight just right to roll it off. Needless to say I am a bit perturbed. The video will have to wait. Heres a picture of me tending the kiln that my friend Maggie Bogle took (with film!).

Bummer! Sorry about that camera. Do you think it will work? I actually repaired my Nikon afew weeks ago and it works like a charm. It wasn't doing anything and I figured I didn't have anything to lose. I took it apart and put it back together and like some sort of starfish kind of magic it came to life, and I haven't had any problems. Did it get wet inside? Sorry. We'll keep our fingers crossed.
I dried it out and im trying to download the videos as I type this. I think its working! But I dont think its gonna be taking any more pictures....
What a bore. I remember when I was a student in the eighties, we built a simple updraught bottle kiln. The lecturer decided to film it with the huge college video camera. He panned up and down then lifted the camera up and pointed it down into the top of the kiln which was by then red hot. End of video camera which in 1984 was a lot of money. Hope you get yours working ok
1984 huh? The year of my birth. HA! Anyways... I got all the footage off but the actual picture taking capabilities are shot. Now I just need to figure out how to post videos on you tube. Right now the video is in my computer and its realy big. Is there a way to compress it to upload it?
Hey don't ask me, I'm an old bloke, you're the youngster!:)
I tried the other day but just had to trim the start and finish.
Sorry about the swim your camera took, glad you were able to get your video off of it. As far as posting on youtube, while I haven't done it, I don't think it's that hard. You start by creating a free account at: http://www.youtube.com/ and then you can upload up to ten minutes of video that can't be larger than 1,084 megabytes (about a gibabyte). Hope that helps.
Robin! Thanks for the info. I figured it out. Not that difficult. More movies to come!
